Professor John Kelly
Professor John Kelly is a dermatologist and Director of the Victorian Melanoma Service, one of Australia’s large multidisciplinary melanoma services, at the Alfred Hospital in Victoria. He also participates more broadly in melanoma research. He will bring to this CRE his expertise obtained during a continued career interest over 25 years in the epidemiology of melanocytic naevi and their relationship to melanoma risk and role as precursors. He has initiated and participated in large studies and published widely in this area. He has trained expert observers in the counting of naevi for these studies. The Victorian Melanoma Service database contains naevus and phenotypic features of 7000 melanoma patients collected over a 20 year period including mole numbers, dysplastic naevi, congenital naevi, freckles, lentigines, skin colour, eye colour, hair colour, a highly valuable data source which could be utilised by the CRE team for example for validation purposes, once novel hypotheses have been posed. Prof John Kelly also brings vast expertise in training dermatology fellows in naevus identification and counting.
